Bleary Magnolias

Graphite, Colored Pencil, Gesso, Oil Wash...

This was actually a failed attempt at an oil wash technique. There were a lot of steps, and I had not worked with oil washes before. Lots of opportunities to make mistakes. In any case, something went wrong. But oh well. C'est la vie.

Furry Cat Heads

Graphite Pencil and Photoshop.

...Apparently, according to this chart which calculates your cat's cat age in approximate human years, this means that these precious kittens are now roughly equivalent to 28-32 years old in maturity.

Please don't be upset if I didn't make you a birthday card. I only really make cards for cats, honest.

Pool Party

Photoshop.

Appropriately, a fear of water is called Aquaphobia. This is not actually to be confused with Hydrophobia, as that is a literal chemical aversion to water.

Worst Date

Photoshop.

Anthophobia is the intense and irrational fear of flowers. Floral fears.

Bird Island

Photoshop.

Done last quarter for the concept art piece from Computer Illustration class. Prompt was to imagine and depict a lost island civilization off of New Zealand with lots of unique lush vegetation.

New Zealand made me think of flightless birds. Lost island made me think of island gigantism concerning Foster's rule of evolutionary biology. Therefore giant moas still exist, and they do so in harmony with these native, undiscovered tribespeople. Obviously.

In this image, the eldest sister is waiting to be anointed by the moa on the forehead in a ritual called the "Blessing of the Moa," in which her younger sisters are witnesses.

(Also, sorry about March. Eek.)

Birds' Nest

Watercolor & colored pencil.

Well, guys, February is my birthday month, and it's clearly all about me. So here's a selfie I did for class last quarter.

Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech is likely one of my favorite books from middle school. "You can't keep the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can keep them from nesting in your hair." Only in this case, my birds are less birds of sadness and more like anxiety birds. Hence the grouchy squawking grackles.

Sittin' Pretty

Colerase and pencil.

Some sketches from a thing.

In other news, I'm considering a move. Tumblr, maybe. I don't know yet. I'll keep you informed.
